America in Black and White presents the evocative early work of John G. Zimmerman, an icon of American photography.

Zimmerman’s pictures cover a remarkable diversity of subjects, from sports, fashion, arts and architecture to politics and the Jim Crow South. Photographing stories for mainstream magazines such as LIFE, TIME and Sports Illustrated as well as innovative commercial ads, Zimmerman could do it all and he did – always pushing the boundaries of the photographic medium.

This selection of black and white pictures (1950-1975), newly published by Hannibal and including many never-before-seen photos, showcases both Zimmerman’s diversity and visual ingenuity.

America in Black and White is available for purchase now at Hannibal Publishing. Starting in February 2017, the book can be purchased on www.amazon.com.

The book is published in conjunction with One More Take, the first major retrospective of Zimmerman’s work, now on exhibit in Belgium (Oct 20, 2016 – Jan 8, 2017). One More Take includes over 200 photos from Zimmerman’s massive oeuvre (1950-1990) and presents a panorama of American life and culture in the second half of the twentieth century.
